Savory Pizza

While I don’t find most food elements difficult to find in vegan cuisine, I do think most vegan foods are lacking in savory-ness. Behold, a super savory, slightly sweet, epically tasty pizza. Check out my recipes for crust and sauce if you want to go the super-homemade route, or use your own.

Savory Pizza (serves 4)

1 recipe of crust (here), or use your own
~1 cup of sauce (here) or use your own
½ cup vegan ground sausage, made from this recipe. I substitute coriander for the fennel seeds and marjoram for sage.
½ onion, chopped
2 large leaves of kale, torn into small pieces
~1/2 cup of your favorite vegan cheese (I use Daiya Shredded Mozzarella)

If you are making your own crust, start the recipe and prepare the sausage mixture while the dough is rising. If you are using pre-made crust, make the sausage first. After it has been frying for a few minutes, add the onion and kale and sauté until the kale has cooked down. If you are making your own crust, roll out the dough and bake it for a few minutes when you add the onion and kale.

Assemble your pizza using the entire sausage/kale/onion mixture. You know the drill. Bake at 350 F until the cheese looks to your liking. Yes I did eat part of the pizza before remembering to take a picture of it.

For a little something extra, top with Parmesan Sprinkles.
